Middle School Studio

Where the bar rises. Learners take on real-world apprenticeships, mentor younger heroes, and prepare for a Next Great Adventure. Roughly 6th to 8th grade.

Middle School is a time full of potential — and Acton meets it by raising the bar.

Most schools combat the potential for entitlement, apathy, and incivility with inconsistently upheld boundaries, tightening control, and moving learners forward whether they've mastered the material. At Acton, we raise the challenge instead. Middle School learners take on rigorous Quests, increasingly challenging Writing and Communication work, and public Exhibitions and Apprenticeships that prepare them for a Next Great Adventure.

Alongside their own studio, MS learners serve in the Elementary Studio and connect with fellow “MS-ers” from Acton campuses around the world — most often those across Florida — both in person and online, so they feel enmeshed in a larger tribe.

Middle School guides step back and let the tribe collapse and rebuild when it needs to, rather than nag, cajole, or intervene to keep the studio “running smoothly.” It's how learners this age build real self-management.

Launchpad, Acton's high school studio, launches at Acton PSL in 2028. Until then, MS graduates are prepared to take on Launchpad at partner Acton campuses or the next chapter of their journey.

Rigor, real-world work, and a Hero's Journey with higher stakes.

Quests & Exhibitions

MS learners tackle increasingly challenging Quests alongside deeper Writing and Communication work. Each session culminates in public Exhibitions where they defend what they've built in front of parents, guides, and outside experts.

Apprenticeships

Learners identify their gifts, research businesses, and pitch themselves — in person — for real-world apprenticeships that become stepping stones toward a calling. They learn to write cold emails, deliver phone pitches, negotiate contracts with employers and parents, and follow up with thank-yous and reference requests.

Servant Leadership

MS learners earn Servant Leader Badges — Heart of a Hero, Running Partner, and Socratic Discussion Leader — while serving in the Elementary Studio and mentoring younger heroes. They learn to lead by lifting others up, not by rank.

An Extended Tribe

MS at Acton is full of field trips and hands-on adventures. Learners connect with “MS-ers” from Acton campuses around the world — most often those across Florida — for activities, competitions, and friendships that reach far beyond one studio.

The learner has to want it.

Middle School admissions is different from Spark and Elementary.

Beyond family fit, the individual learner auditioning must show a strong personal desire to be at Acton. A self-managing, self-governing MS tribe only works if every learner has said “yes” to the challenge — the freedom, the responsibility, and the higher bar. It's not a decision parents can make for their child at this age.

If your child is ready for that “yes,” the audition process starts with a tour.
